Cannon Tapped to Lead FLIR Systems

FLIR Systems, Inc. has appointed James J. “Jim” Cannon as its new president and chief executive officer, effective June 19, 2017, succeeding Andy Teich, who will retire after 33 years of service. Cannon previously served for more than 16 years in a variety of senior leadership positions at Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., most recently as president of Stanley Security North America & Emerging Markets.

A consortium of organizations are working toward a landmark achievement in the maritime sectors: creating the world's first class-approved 3D-printed ship's propeller.   As many sectors of the shipbuilding industry suffer due to overcapacity, it is this type of innovative leap that will -- if successful -- separate the next generation of leaders in the sector.

Nearly Half of Interlake Fleet Fit with Scrubbers

The M/V Mesabi Miner has sailed from Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., becoming Interlake Steamship Company’s fourth self-unloading bulk carrier to be outfitted with exhaust gas scrubbers.    Interlake became the first U.S.-flag fleet to test freshwater scrubbers on the Great Lakes in April 2015 after pioneering the emission-reduction technology on its M/V Hon.
